Apple has published a patent application

APPLE WAS GRANTED AN AUGMENTED REALITY PATENT THAT RELATES TO A NEXT-GEN VEHICLE WINDSHIELD DISPLAY SYSTEM

Apple has published a  patent application  for an AR windshield display that could provide drivers with information about vehicle speed, warnings about school zones, clearer road signs, and more.

The graphical overlay on the windshield would enhance the driving experience by offering relevant information to the driver.

  • The patent application suggests that Apple's AR windshield display could autonomously control vehicle navigation and display speed-related information, route guidance, and environmental cues.
  • The AR display could modify occupant-perceived information presented by signs in the external environment, enhancing their visibility and relevance.
  • Apple's technology may simulate objects in the environment, such as obstacles or driving zones, through the AR display and an active suspension system.
  • The AR display could represent specific driving zones, such as school zones or areas with differently-abled individuals, to provide drivers with relevant information and alerts.
  • AR projection technology is set to expand beyond the driver's cockpit, becoming the next big thing in vehicles, as major car and tech companies recognize its potential beyond  Head Up Display  (HUD) systems.
