Number of apps available for VR headsets

 

What the numbers say:  In January 2022, the official app store for Oculus Quest had ~340 apps available for VR headsets. In contrast, the Oculus App Lab platform had approximately 840 apps at the beginning of the year, according to Road to VR. Steam had around 5,000 apps available for VR headsets.  Relevance: There are thousands of VR apps for popular VR headsets such as Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR. The number continues to grow as more developers create content for VR platforms. Apple's new Vision Pro is expected to offer compatibility with Rec Room, a popular social VR app. The Rec Room app currently supports various platforms such as SteamVR, Meta Quest, Meta PC VR, PSVR, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox, iOS, Android, and standard monitors via Steam. Influence: Apple introduced its $3,500 Vision Pro "spatial computing" headset, scheduled for an early launch next year. Despite limited availability, the company seeks developer support, hoping for immersive 3D apps to enhance the headset's success. Apple offers simulation tools in Xcode and early access to hardware for select software makers to ensure a robust app store upon release.
