A former general manager of AutoNation USA Houston sued the company over alleged racial discrimination and retaliation, arguing that his dismissal was linked to reporting a senior director's racist comments. AutoNation pressed for arbitration based on an agreement signed during the manager's onboarding but he contested, stating that the arbitration fees were too burdensome. The trial court and court of appeals supported the employee's claim about the costs but the Texas Supreme Court overturned the decision, finding that the signed arbitration agreement was not unconscionable.
