Preply, an online language learning marketplace, has nabbed $70M in fresh funding to expand its use of AI. The Ukrainian-founded startup has already launched an AI assistant to help human tutors plan lessons, create exercises, and explain grammar, among other tasks. Preply connects users with ~35,000 human tutors to learn new languages. - The additional $70M in equity and debt capital brings Preply's Series C funding round to $120M.

Similarly, language-learning app Duolingo recently unveiled paid chatbot features powered by GPT-4. - "Explain My Answer" allows users to ask Duo, the owl-themed chatbot, to clarify the correctness of their answers and provide examples for further understanding.
- The "Roleplay" feature allows users to practice their language skills in different scenarios, like ordering food at a French cafe.
