Amazon's drug subscription service is available to Amazon Prime members.

The new service called RXPass is $5 per month and lets patients order generic medications for more than 80 health conditions.

The service is available in most U.S. states that are not heavily populated as the company tests the service. Therefore it is not operational in California, Pennsylvania, Texas, and other select states.

  • This is the newest attempt by Amazon to move into the pharmaceutical industry after purchasing Pillpark in 2018, entering a joint venture with JPMorgan Chase and Berkshire Hataway, and most recently shutting down its Amazon Care service.
  • If successful, the widespread use of genetic drugs offered by Amazon or another single pharmacy could drastically impact the wider advertising industry by reducing the power and importance of brand names in the pharmaceutical market, thus eliminating or reducing the return on investment on advertising spending.
  • Amazon is also attempting to purchase the parent company of One Medical to acquire its medical clinics and has offered $3.49B.
  • The pharmaceutical industry currently spends $6.6B in advertising in the U.S.
