England's Premier League and blockchain-based sports game Sorare inked a deal to offer official digital trading cards.
France-based Sorare has agreed to pay millions of dollars per year
under the four-year licensing contract with the English soccer league.
- Sorare is a fantasy sports gaming experience based on NFTs or non-fungible tokens.
- Under the deal's terms, Sorare users will be able to buy and trade the digital collectibles as NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain.
- The
digital cards will feature players from all 20 Premier League clubs.
Players will be able to create their own five-player teams and compete
online, earning points based on who wins.
- Sorare said the Premier League game will also have a "financial fair play" feature that bars users from choosing all-star teams.
- Sorare claims 3 million users worldwide. In 2021, the startup raised $680M in a SoftBank-led funding round at a $4.3B valuation.
