IAB CEO David Cohen said that the internet ad industry would confront and challenge Apple over its "hypocrisy" on privacy policies.

IAB is the largest digital ad industry trade group, and its members include Google and Meta.

  • In 2021, Apple limited the data that advertisers and apps can get from their phones. This has made advertising less precise on these devices.
  • Apple has applied a double standard as they require third-party apps to declare exactly what they are doing and ask permission to "track," while Apple gets the right to track users when they agree to have their settings personalized.
  • Apple has then used this data to sell ad placements in the App Store and other Apple services.
  • Apple does not work with the IAB and does not directly collaborate with its members on anti-tracking policies.
  • Meta has already publically called out Apple, claiming its policies breached anti-competition laws.
