  The unsealed 65-page opinion offers new details why he ruled against the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).


  • The ruling rejected the FTC's arguments for why Meta's acquisition of Within Unlimited was anti-competitive.
    • The judge sided with the FTC on some legal and factual arguments, which could bolster the agency's case in any similar litigation in the future. 
  • The request was led by FTC's Chair Lina Khan, a critic of big tech platforms like Meta.
  • Facebook rebranded as Meta in October 2021.
