Amazon has announced that it will support India's Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

The non-profit established by the Indian government seeks to "democratize" e-commerce in the country.

  • Amazon said on Friday that it would integrate its logistics network and its SmartCommerce platform into India's Open Network for Digital Commerce.
    • Amazon's SmartCommerce initiative is intended to digitize small shops
  • The ONDC will provide an interoperable network that allows buyers and sellers to participate in transactions regardless of the app or service they use.
  • The network is intended to challenge the dominance of U.S.-based firms in India's e-commerce sector.
  • Both Amazon and its Walmart-backed competitor Flipkart are expected to be affected by the scheme.
