Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley plans to launch her bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination on Feb. 15.

Haley, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations for two years during the Trump administration, would join former President Trump as the only Republicans to officially announce their candidacies.

  • Over the weekend, Trump told reporters that when Haley called him to discuss a potential White House bid, he encouraged her to run.
  • "When you’re looking at the future of America, I think it’s time for new generational change. I don’t think you need to be 80 years old to go be a leader in D.C," Haley, who is 51, told Fox News last month.
  • Haley was known as a Republican critic of Trump prior to her appointment as U.N. ambassador.

Zoom Out:

  • Former Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are also expected to announce bids for the GOP nomination this year.
  • Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott could also join the race.
  • President Biden is expected to announce if he will run for re-election after his State of the Union address on Feb. 7.
