Google Cloud has just announced the general availability of its Immersive Stream for Extended Reality (XR) service.

This new offering claims to deliver rich and interactive 3D and augmented reality experiences to a range of devices.

  • Immersive Stream for XR is powered by Google Cloud’s graphic processing units (GPUs).
  • According to the Google Cloud website, Immersive Stream for XR allows users to engage in an immersive, interactive, and photorealistic experience almost instantly without having to download an app.
  • Google says users can be transported to XR simply by scanning a QR code or clicking a link.
  • The new service is compatible with iOS, Android, and the web and supports mobile devices, tablets, and desktop computers.
  • Virtual Worlds, a virtual tour company, uses Immersive Stream to enhance its online educational tours, and Korean automaker Kia used it to create customizable 3D models of the company’s Sportage Vehicle.
