Meta plans more job cuts

Meta Platforms is planning additional layoffs as part of a downsizing that could impact thousands of workers, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday.

Citing an anonymous source, the report claims that the Facebook-parent company plans to move some leadership to lower-level positions where they won't have to manage a team.

  • The move will help flatten "the layers of management between top boss Mark Zuckerberg and the company's interns," according to the source.
  • Besides targeting managers, Meta is said to be weighing more conventional job cuts that could affect units across the company and worldwide.
  • These cuts may not occur all at once, but happen gradually over the coming months, the source said.
  • A Meta spokesperson declined to comment but cited prior comments by CEO Mark Zuckerberg about Meta's plans to make 2023 the "Year of Efficiency."
  • Financial Times report from earlier this month also claimed Meta is planning another round of layoffs.
  • According to that report, Meta could announce the job cuts after it completes staff performance reviews in March.
  • In November, Meta laid off 11,000 people, or 13% of its workforce.
