Meta will soon ask many managers to transition to individual contributor roles

Meta will soon ask many managers to transition to individual contributor roles.

Senior managers at Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, will soon ask their subordinates to switch to contributor jobs or leave the company, reports Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.

  • Many managers and directors will be expected to take over tasks such as designing, researching, and coding.
  • The policy, which has been called "flattening," will be revealed to middle managers separately from their scheduled performance reviews.
  • Some employees have complained about problems such as multiple teams competing to achieve similar goals.
  • The "flattening" process is intended to make the company's workforce more efficient.

  • CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during Meta's earnings call last week that 2023 would be the "Year of Efficiency" and pledged to reduce the number of middle managers at the company.
  • He said the firm remains bloated despite having already cut 13% of its workforce in November.
  • Meta's share price has risen by 56% this year after experiencing its worst year ever in 2022.
