Microsoft officially disabled the desktop version of Internet Explorer on Windows 10.

On Tuesday, Microsoft officially disabled the desktop version of Internet Explorer on Windows 10.

The company has been redirecting users to its Microsoft Edge browser, which has been the default browser for Windows 10 since 2015.

  • As of Tuesday, Windows 10 users can no longer access Explorer, and any devices that try to open the browser are redirected to Edge.
  • Micorosft said Edge provides "a faster, more secure, and more modern browsing experience" that is still capable of opening Explorer-dependent legacy sites when required.
  • The company first launched Explorer in 1995 and released the final version in 2013. At its peak in 2003, the browser controlled 95% of the market.
  • As of January, Google Chrome claimed 65.4% of the browser market, followed by Apple Safari with 18.71% and Edge at 4.46%.
