GOOD NEWS: Minnesota authorities rescued a black bear from a snowy ditch on Monday.
The animal was relocated to an artificial "nest" at the Thief Lake Wildlife Management Area in Marshall County.
- An adult male black bear was rescued from deep snow covering a ditch in Minnesota's Roseau County.
- The animal became stuck as it tried to escape a den in a culvert that flooded as temperatures rose.
- Andy
Tri, bear project leader for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
in Grand Rapids, sedated the animal in preparation for the rescue
effort.
- Tri worked with personnel from the DNR and the local sheriff's office to pull the bear out of the snow.
- The bear was transported to a new den that afforded it "some protection from the elements," said Tri.
