Opera AI will summarize web pages

 

The Opera web browser is adding a sidebar tool that uses AI to summarize web pages and articles.  The "Shorten" feature uses ChatGPT to quickly generate a bulleted summary of a page's contents. The Shorten tool is coming to the browser "very soon," Jan Standel, Opera's VP of marketing and communications, told The Verge. Users will be able to access the feature as a button to the right of the address bar. It's part of Opera's longer-term plans to add AI services to "augment" the browsing experience, though the firm didn't provide further details. Opera, headquartered in Norway, is a subsidiary of China-based Kunlun Tech Limited. In Q3 2022, the web browser claimed around 321 million users. It has a 2.4% share of the web browser market, making it the sixth most popular.
