Professor Lorenzo Alvis of Cornell University in New York is the recipient of Aptos Labs' $50,000 grant award.  The grant will be used to support student research into and to build a "fault-tolerant, decentralized append-only log on top of a Byzantine-tolerant database." Aptos Labs was founded by Avery Ching and Mo Shaik, who previously worked on Meta's Diem's Novi wallet.  In July 2022, Aptos raised $150M in fresh capital that was led by FTX and investors including Parafi. In March 2022, the company raised $200M via a strategic round that included Andreessen Horowitz, Multicoin Capital, and Haun Ventures. Alvisi is a professor of computer science and a researcher of distributed computing and game theory.  Aptos Labs is a layer one blockchain that was launched in October 2022 for faster and cheaper transactions.  Others that have donated money to universities include Ripple, which invested $50M in Princeton and the University of Texas.
