Sam Altman's Worldcoin eyes $120M fundraise

Worldcoin, the crypto startup co-founded by OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman, is in talks with investors to raise a new $120M funding through equity and token warrants.

The firm is eyeing a $3B valuation and is on the lookout for the lead investor.

  • Worldcoin aspires to be the world's largest financial network focused on universal basic income and intends to use iris scanning as a method to verify a user's identity.
  • The firm has faced public backlash over privacy concerns for gathering personal biometric data.
    • Per Buzzfeed, the firm had scanned the irises of half a million people by last April.
  • The firm raised $125M to date from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Khosla Ventures, Multicoin Capital, and others.
  • It last raised a Series A round at the same $3B valuation in 2022.
