Seven Russian hackers have been sanctioned by the U.S. and the U.K. for their involvement in the Trickbot malware gang.
The individuals are now not allowed to travel to the two countries.
- TrickBot is an advanced Trojan that malicious actors spread primarily by spearphishing campaigns using tailored emails that contain malicious attachments or links.
- Trickbot was first tracked in 2016.
- The group became known for deploying a bank trojan but has evolved to deploy a suite of malicious tools, including ransomware.
- The hacker group has previously launched attacks against U.S. organizations, including a case when it successfully managed to breach multiple hospitals in Minnesota and force them to pay a ransom.
- In addition to the travel bans, the hackers have also had their assets frozen.
