Amazon and Shopify are negotiating a deal that may see Amazon's Buy with Prime service integrated into Shopify's e-commerce platform.
Shopify executives struck an optimistic tone about the negotiations during the company's Q4 earnings call on Wednesday.
- Buy with Prime allows merchants to provide their customers with Prime benefits when they sell products on sites outside of Amazon's ecosystem.
- The service provides merchants with a Buy with Prime button that allows their customers to checkout using payment and shipping data stored on their Amazon accounts.
- Shopify's e-commerce platform does not currently permit merchants to use Amazon's Buy with Prime service.
- Shopify president Harley Finkelstein said the company is "in talks" with Amazon about integrating the Buy with Prime service with Shopify's e-commerce platform.
- Rick Watson, CEO and Founder of RMW Commerce Consulting, has warned that the potential deal would be a "Trojan horse" that Amazon could use to divert revenue from Shopify.
