Sony has denied claims that it has slashed production numbers of its upcoming PlayStation VR 2 headset.
The Japanese electronics giant refuted claims made in a Bloomberg report that it halved its forecast for initial shipments of the second-generation hardware.
- Citing "people familiar" with the decision, Bloomberg reported that Sony cut its original forecast for shipments from 2 million units to 1 million for the initial launch quarter.
- The report attributed the cut to lower-than-expected pre-orders for the VR system.
- However, PlayStation has since told GamesIndustry.biz that it has "not cut PlayStation VR 2 production numbers."
- The company said it is seeing enthusiasm for the headset's upcoming release on Feb. 22. Upon launch, there will be more than 30 compatible titles, including Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Resident Evil Village, it said.
- The PSVR 2 will cost $550 in the U.S., which is notably pricier than the PlayStation 5 console required to play it.
