Spotify announced what it calls an "AI DJ" that plays curated music and offers commentary between tracks.
The feature, which is similar to a radio DJ, uses data to decide what songs to add to a user's personalized playlist.
- Users can press a "DJ" button to hear the service offer commentary on the track or artist. It also does this automatically between every few song transitions.
- The DJ's song recommendations of new and old music are based on a user's listening history and other data.
- Over time, the DJ learns more about the listener's habits to improve the suggestions, according to Spoftiy.
- To develop the feature, the music streamer turned to technology from its 2022 acquisition of the AI voice tech platform Sonantic.
- At the time, Spotify said it would incorporate Sonantic's voice technology to create new experiences, such as providing context to its users about upcoming recommendations when they're not looking at their screens.
