The U.S. is preparing to announce another military aid package for Ukraine.
The $2B package is expected to include weapons that will allow
Ukrainian forces to strike further behind Russian lines, reports
Reuters, citing U.S. officials briefed on the matter.
- The
package will include $1.725B in weapons sourced directly from the
industry as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
- The
U.S. will supply Ukraine with Boeing's Ground Launched Small Diameter
Bomb, a new weapon that will allow Kyiv's forces to strike Russian
targets that are currently out of reach.
- The package will also include about $400M worth of weapons from U.S. stockpiles.
- Stockpiled
U.S. weapons will be provided through the Presidential Drawdown
Authority, which allows President Biden to take weapons from U.S. stocks
in the event of an emergency.
- The U.S. Congress approved over $113B in aid for Ukraine in 2022, including $67B to support Ukraine's defense capabilities.
