Five pages of the special grand jury report about former President Trump's attempts to overturn the result of the 2020 election in Georgia were published on Thursday. According to the documents, "one or more" unnamed witnesses who testified in relation to the investigation may have committed perjury.
- The
jurors found that "no widespread fraud took place in the Georgia 2020
presidential election that could result in overturning that election."
- The
excerpts do not outline the conclusions reached by the grand jury, nor
do they reveal if the jurors recommended indictments in relation to the
case.
- Georgia prosecutors informed nearly 20 people, including
former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, that they may be indicted in
relation to the investigation.
- Earlier this week, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ordered the release of some parts of the report.
- The special grand jury, which interviewed a total of 75 witnesses, was convened in early 2021 by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
- Legal
expert Norman Eisen speculated that the judge may have chosen to
release only these parts of the report "to avoid interfering with the
rights of those who are named in the report but not yet charged."
