Amazon may be in the process of developing its own browser, Gizmodo reports.
The project could provide a new node that links Amazon's advertising business with its e-commerce operations.
Amazon recently sent a survey to users asking them to "Imagine that there is a new desktop/laptop browser from Amazon available."
- The survey, a copy of which was obtained by Gizmodo, asked a number of questions that appeared to be aimed at gathering consumer insights about a potential browser project.
- If Amazon is developing a browser for PCs and other devices, it could provide a potentially lucrative revenue stream by linking Amazon's advertising business with its extensive consumer database.
- Amazon previously launched a browser in 2011 called Silk, which was designed to run on Amazon-made devices.
