Amazon said it plans to lay off ~9,000 employees

Over the past few months, Amazon has announced plans to cut a total of 27,000 jobs, or 9% of its workforce.

The latest job cuts will be concentrated in Amazon Web Services, Twitch, advertising, and the PTX (people, experiences, and tech) units.

    • In a memo sent to employees, CEO Andy Jassy said that Amazon's new operating plan aims to make the company leaner by streamlining "our costs and headcount."
    • He said that by mid-to-late April the company will finalize its efforts to reduce its headcount.
    • Earlier this year, Amazon discontinued its charity program AmazonSmile and shut down a virtual telehealth program for employers.

Last week, Facebook said it planned to cut ~10,000 positions, adding to the 11,000+ layoffs announced in 2022.
