Miami Beach imposed a curfew on Sunday night after two deadly shootings over the weekend.
Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber called for an end to the annual Spring Break tradition, which has attracted national attention for its unruly crowds and violence in recent years.
City officials said the shootings and the "excessively large and unruly crowds" prompted the decision.
- The curfew, which ran from Sunday night to Monday morning, may come into effect once more from Thursday to Sunday.
- In a video message on Sunday, Gelber said that the presence of firearms has "created a peril that cannot go unchecked."
- A similar curfew was imposed in 2022, following two shootings that also took place on the popular Ocean Drive area near the beach.
- In 2021, police arrested ~1,000 people and confiscated dozens of guns during spring break.
