Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to invest $6B in Malaysia from now until 2037 to improve and expand the country’s cloud infrastructure.

This is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to grow its cloud presence in more Southeast Asian countries.

AWS says its cloud infrastructure will offer secure data storage, and more than 200 services, including storage, robotics, and AI.

  • The cloud giant also shared that the AWS region will provide advanced technologies and cloud skills programs in Malaysia to empower startups, businesses, and entrepreneurs.
  • Both public and private sector organizations will be given greater choice and flexibility for running their applications.
  • The new AWS region will consist of three availability zones. The company currently boasts 99 availability zones globally.
  • Some notable AWS customers in Malaysia include Bank Islam Malaysia, Axiata Group, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation, the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, and others.
