Brazil's Lula cancels trip to China

Brazilian President Lula canceled his high-profile trip to China due to medical reasons.

The visit, including a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, will be rescheduled.

Lula, 77, was diagnosed with bacterial and viral bronchopneumonia caused by influenza A.

  • The Brazilian government informed the Chinese authorities of the postponement.
  • The trip was significant to improve relations with Brazil's largest trading partner.
  • Lula would have traveled with a large delegation, including cabinet ministers, lawmakers, governors, and business leaders.
    • More than a third of the business leaders were from Brazil's farm sector.

The cancellation shifts focus to presenting an eagerly awaited fiscal framework in Brazil.
