EU competition regulators are expected to approve Google's 2022 acquisition of Croatian-based math app Photomath, sources told Reuters.
Regulators began reviewing the deal last month to decide whether to open an antitrust investigation. A decision is expected by March 28.
- Google signed an agreement to acquire Photomath in May 2022.
- To use the app, users can point their smartphone camera to a math formula and the app will deliver an answer.
- The
technology is expected to enhance Google's ability to offer improved
math learning experiences to students, as well as build out its homework
help offerings, the company said.
- Photomath, with offices in California and Croatia, said it has amassed over 220 million downloads.
- The
startup, founded by angel investor Damir Sabol, has raised more than
$23M from investors such as Menlo Ventures, LearnCapital, Goodwater
Capital, and GSV Ventures.
