Flexera’s 2023 State of the Cloud report outlines current cloud spending and adoption trends among various organization types. 

 Over 750 IT and global executive leaders were surveyed to ensure adequate industry representation. 

  • According to the report, the top six most widely adopted cloud providers in their respective order are Amazon Web Services (AWS),  Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, IBM Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud. 
  • 41% of respondents said their organization uses Microsoft Azure to run significant workloads, while 47% said they use AWS. 
  • In terms of enterprise use of public cloud providers, 43% use Azure, 46% use AWS, and 19% use GCP to run significant workloads. Small and Medium-sized businesses (SMBs) preferred AWS over other public cloud providers, with 54% of respondents relying on the cloud provider to run significant workloads. 
  • Regarding cloud usage level, the report found that heavy cloud users tend to use AWS, with 65% of respondents doing so. 
  • The survey reveals that cloud users overall spend the most on AWS cloud services, with 12% of respondents spending between $100,000 and $200,000 a month, followed by 11% for Azure and 9% for GCP.
