Four cheetah cubs were born in India's Kuno National Park wildlife sanctuary.

India has been attempting to reintroduce the animals for decades after they were declared extinct in the country in 1952.

  • Park officials spotted the four cubs on Wednesday, according to the Press Trust of India, but they are believed to have been born five days ago.
  • The cubs were born to a female Cheetah, Siyaya, that was transported from Namibia to India last September.
  • Both Siyaya and her cubs are healthy, according to a park official.
  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the births were "wonderful news," while Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav congratulated "the entire team of Project Cheetah for their relentless efforts in bringing back cheetahs to India."
