FTX case judge may remove Shaquille O'Neal and Naomi Osaka

The judge handling the FTX case is considering removing Shaquille O'Neal and Naomi Osaka from the lawsuits.

The decision will be made by December 2023.

  • FTX had a long list of celebrity endorsements, including names such as:
    • Tom Brady,
    • Shaquille O'Neal,
    • Larry David,
    • Stephen Curry,
    • Gisele Bündchen,
    • Kevin O'Leary,
    • David Ortiz
    • Trevor Lawrence, etc.
  • After FTX's bankruptcy, multiple celebrities that had endorsement deals with the exchange were hit with lawsuits over endorsing a failed cryptocurrency without doing their due diligence.
  • The lawsuit claims that they are partially responsible for the billions of dollars that were lost.
  • Sam Bankman-Fried, FTX's CEO, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of wire fraud and money laundering.
  • The celebrities, however, do not face jail time as of now.
  • Brady, Bündchen, O'Leary, Ortiz, and Lawrence asked for a time extension on the case, a request that was dismissed.
