Gmail and Google Calendar add client-side encryption

Gmail and Google Calendar have added client-side encryption as a security feature for all users.

The feature was previously tested with a limited number of users.

  • From now, Workspace Enterprise Plus users can send emails, receive emails, and create meeting events more safely because they are encrypted before reaching Google's servers.
  • Client-Side Encryption is already used for Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Meet.
  • Multiple Google clients, including companies such as Verizon, Groupe Le Monde, and PwC, use the feature.
  • The feature is currently not available for individual users.
  • This feature rollout comes a few months after Apple announced its plan to add end-to-end encryption for iCloud backups.
