The U.S. government has given federal agencies a 30-day deadline to delete TikTok from their devices.
The use of TikTok in federal agencies was banned in December 2022.
- Within a 90-day period, all federal agencies must declare that TikTok cannot be used on devices, and they must cancel any existing contracts that require the app's use.
- 120 days after this notice has been published, all federal agencies must submit the number of exceptions approved regarding the use of the social media app.
- Most exceptions are likely to be in cases when it is believed that using the app could benefit national security, as stated in the directive.
- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced yesterday that the country is banning TikTok from all government-issued mobile devices.
- The European Commission also announced its plan to ban the app last week.
