Software developers at Goldman Sachs are using generative AI to help write and test code, according to chief information officer Marco Argenti.
He told CNBC that the banking giant's use of AI-assisted coding technology remains a "proof of concept" that isn't yet ready for mass production.
- Argenti didn't reveal which generative AI tools the coders were using.
- In some cases, Goldman Sachs' developers have used AI to automatically write up to 40% of their code, Argenti estimated.
- He said the aim wasn't to replace human programmers but allow them to be "more productive."
- He said, "the imperative is to really try to understand the potential" of AI, adding that it's among the biggest disruptors in tech alongside the internet, smartphones, and cloud.
