Indiana State University and Tulane University have created a digital twin of Pompeii for educational and archaeological purposes.

The project uses geospatial and digital twin technology to map and monitor an area in the city.

The block under exploration, Insula 14, is thought to hold information about Pompeii's early existence, economy, infrastructure, and development.

  • The technology uses satellite imagery, descriptive data, photographs, and sketches.
  • The digital twin allows users to see the evolution of the dig.
  • The team is in early talks with the Children's Museum in Indianapolis to design an exhibit around digital archaeology using the example of Pompeii.
