HBO's "The Last of Us" ended its first season with a new viewership record, despite competition from the Academy Awards ceremony.
Around 8.2
million people viewed the show's ninth episode on Sunday night across
both HBO and HBO Max, based on Nielsen data and WB Discovery's internal
numbers.
- According to WBD, the first
six episodes of "The Last of Us" Season 1 have an average total
viewership of around 30.4 million people; the series premiere is now
approaching 40 million viewers.
- That would put the show slightly ahead of "House of the Dragon," which averaged around 29 million cross-platform viewers during its debut season.
- In Europe and Latin America, "The Last of Us" is already the most-viewed show in HBO Max history.
- Episode 4 previously held the Sunday night viewership record, with 7.5 million viewers tuning in on its premiere day.
