Meta executive hacked by the Greek government

A Meta executive was hacked by the Greek government using the Pegasus spyware.

The spyware is reportedly being used by multiple governments around the world.

According to the New York Times, the Meta executive could be the first American to be spied on in Europe using this spyware.

  • The victim, named Artemis Seaford, is a dual U.S.-Greek citizen.
  • Seaford stated that she suspects she may be one of a long list of targets that the Greek government spied on in recent years.
  • The Greek government is believed to have spied on politicians, activists, business owners, and other commercial spyware like Predator.
  • The spying scandal has been named Greece's Watergate by media outlets.

In 2022, it was reported that Pegasus had been used to spy on Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, Greek PM Mitsotakis, EU Parliament members, etc.

  • Earlier this week, Russia directed all of its officials to stop using iPhones due to fears of being spied on.
