Meta Platforms is considering building a new standalone decentralized, text-based social network that could compete with Twitter.
The project, codenamed P92, would allow users to log in using their Instagram credentials and will support ActivityPub, the decentralized social networking protocol powering Mastodon.
Decentralized social platforms rely on individual servers that use a uniform protocol, avoiding centralized content control and possible censorship.
