Korea's NCSoft Corp. invested in U.S. hologram platform developer Light Field Lab (LFL) to secure future technologies, such as 3D and VR, to strengthen its business competitiveness.
NCSoft participated as a lead investor in LFL's $50M Series B funding, and it's estimated that the company invested multi-million dollars at least.
San Jose, California-based startup LFL specializes in developing 3D hologram technology that can be implemented without a separate dedicated headset.
- Companies like Samsung, Verizon, and Bosch have invested in it.
- SolidLight, developed by LFL, is the highest-resolution holographic display platform, allowing natural digital objects to float mid-air without headgear.
- LFL plans to use the latest financing to accelerate the commercialization of its SolidLight systems across various enterprise and location-based entertainment applications,
- This includes its new product, "Space and Time," which allows users to interact with SolidLight holograms.
- NCSoft is pushing for a large project called "Digital Actor" and recruited a professor of deep learning at Seoul National University as its chief research officer.
