Shopify is working to build a fulfillment network that is distinct from Amazon.

Shopify CFO Jeff Hoffmeister said the company aims to establish an inexpensive network of logistics partners.

Shopify acquired e-commerce fulfillment and order storage services company Deliverr for $2.1B in July.

  • Shopify CFO Jeff Hoffmeiste said the company would leverage Deliverr's technology to establish a distributed fulfillment network that is more cost-effective than Amazon's.
  • Amazon has a centralized network that operates millions of stock keeping units (SKUs).
  • Shopify intends to establish "a lot of small networks with 20 SKUs," said President Harley Finkelstein.
