Southwest Airlines Co. has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud services provider.

 

Southwest Airlines Co. has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud services provider.  AWS will help Southwest develop self-service applications that make it easier for customers to do business with the company digitally.  Southwest Airlines announced on Wednesday that it selected AWS to help the airline "modernize" its business and improve its IT reliability. Southwest CEO Bob Jordan vowed to spend $1.3B upgrading the airline's IT and operational infrastructure after a software failure caused the airline to cancel over 16,700 flights in December. A key focus for the airline will include self-service applications that make it easier for customers to do business with the company digitally.  Southwest will use AWS technology to develop automatic scaling capabilities that can accommodate real-time fare searches and upgrade other customer services.
