The Netherlands launched a new cannabis pilot program for cultivation.
The country will now let licensed coffee shops grow their own cannabis, which was previously illegal.
Although the Netherlands is very tolerant of cannabis, most licensed shops buy from illegal suppliers amid current laws.
- The new pilot program, Wietexperiment, will allow each shop to grow up to 500 grams of legal weed, offering more flexibility for shops to sell products.
- The country hopes the new pilot program will offer more flexibility and reduce gray areas in the law for suppliers and distributors.
- The pilot program will run at the beginning of fall 2023 and end sometime in Q1 2024.
