Netherlands launches new cannabis program

A study from Nature Medicine linked heart disease to sugar replacement products.

The study was led by Dr. Stanley Hazen and pointed to a link between erythritol, a sugar replacement, and a risk of blood clotting, stroke, and heart attack.

  • The results specifically affected those struggling with health conditions like heart disease or diabetes.
  • Those individuals were up to twice as likely to experience a stroke or heart attack if they had higher levels of erythritol.
  • The Calorie Control Council responded to the study results by noting decades of previous research disputes the current claims.
  • The study comes as an alarm to what some had believed were better alternatives to sugar but now may want to limit their overall intake of erythritol in their diets.
