The U.S. Space Force is rebuilding its IT systems, some over 30 years old, to accommodate artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and digital twin models.

Space Force leaders aim to develop a new strategy to rebuild its IT infrastructure so that AI and digital twins can operate well.

The Space Force is designing a model-based systems engineering method and implementation guide to set policies and guidelines for employing digital models.

  • Over the past three years, the Space Force has been building "vertical infrastructures."
  • The Space Force is also working on an integrated operations network (ION) to provide high bandwidth and low latency for capabilities, including AI.
  • The Space Force aims to provide standards that ensure they are not vendor locked and can run models on different systems due to various capabilities in different locations.
