Tokyo-based IT and communications technology firm Fujitsu has debuted a new cloud-based platform designed to enable health data collection to support the development of personalized healthcare and the discovery of new medications.

The new platform is now generally available to medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies in Japan.

Fujitsu's new platform is based on Microsoft Azure and is said to operate in a safe and secure cloud environment while adhering to compliance measures such as the "Guidelines for Safety Management of Medical Information Systems" of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), and others.

    • According to a company press release, the new platform can automatically convert medical data from medical institutions' EMR records into non-PII data to enable medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies to perform data analysis and R&D to select the best medications and treatment methods for patients and provide more personalized healthcare.
    • The company has a data portability service underway that will allow patients to view their medical data via their smart mobile devices.
