United Airlines plans Chicago eVTOL route

United Airlines and Archer Aviation announced plans for an eVTOL route between Chicago O'Hare and a vertiport in the city starting in 2025. In August, United made a $10M deposit for the purchase of 100 eVTOLs from Archer.

Lidar manufacturer Ouster revealed it is on course to save more than $75M a year beginning by the end of 2023. Ouster completed its acquisition of Velodyne Lidar in February.

Ford revealed its expectations of a $3B loss for 2023 in its EV business unit while assuring it remains on track for a pretax margin of 8% by late 2026. Last year, Ford announced the split of its EV unit from its internal combustion engine car business.

The Federal Aviation Administration is allowing airlines to request a reduction in departure or arrival slots to ease congestion at airports. Delta Air Lines already announced the removal of 6,000 flights from its schedule this summer, following American Airlines' cut of 50,000 flights.

Hyundai and Kia are recalling 570,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a risk of fire caused by a faulty tow hitch harness and are asking customers to park outside until repairs are made. The automaker issued a separate recall of 26,169 Veloster hatchback models from 2012 and 2013 due to the risk of a parking sensor circuit board causing a fire.

The government of Ireland is reducing its subsidy of electric vehicle sales from €5,000 to €3,000 ($5,415 to $3,248) starting on July 1. 15,462 new EVs were registered in Ireland in 2022.

Chilean budget carrier JetSmart is canceling its memorandum of understanding to acquire Ultra Air and will seek its own license to operate in Colombia. JetSmart had also previously made plans to acquire Viva Air, but now Avianca will merge with it instead.
