U.S. citizen receives Ketamine therapy

The first U.S. citizen received ketamine-assisted therapy for alcohol use disorder at Nushama clinic in New York.

Awakn Life Sciences developed the "Ketamine for the Reduction of Alcohol Use Disorder" protocol used in the treatment.

  • The protocol combines psychotherapy with ketamine infusions over four weeks.
  • The treatment aims to provide insights into underlying cravings for alcohol and understand behavioral patterns contributing to addiction cycles.
  • A randomized controlled clinical trial of 96 participants demonstrated 86% abstinence from alcohol after six months using the KARE protocol.
  • KARE emphasizes a mindfulness-based psychotherapy component, which includes 18 hours of sessions across four weeks.

  • The ketamine-assisted therapy approach challenges the abstinence-only model traditionally used to treat alcohol use disorder.
