U.S. employment in the advertising, public relations, and related services sector fell by 1,000 jobs in February.

 The decline in the industry is despite a 311,000 job increase in the overall U.S. economy and significantly higher than expected by economists. 

Jobs in the U.S. advertising industry have declined in four of the past six months.

  • There are currently 494,300 jobs in the U.S. in the advertising industry. 
  • Despite the volatility in the advertising industry, job figures have remained virtually unchanged over the last six months, as there were 494,000 jobs in the industry at the start of September. 
  • 46% of the jobs in the advertising industry are at advertising agencies
